Krafty Kids

Hello and Welcome to the Kafty Kids blog! We are so happy you are here.

I have started this blog as a record of the craft classes that I offer for kids (and big kids too)

Currently I am running an after school craft club in my local area of Wellard. This program is fully funded by the city of Kwinana, and is free to attend!

This week our theme was dinosaurs, and wax resist painting.
The kids were given the task of drawing a dinosaur, without looking at their paper and without taking their crayon off the page. I encouraged the kids to let their imaginations run wild!
While they were drawing I asked them "what features does a dinosaur have" the kids responded with "sharp teeth" "claws" "horns" I encouraged them to add these features to their creations.
After drawing with the wax crayons, we painted over the top with water colours. I asked the kids "what happens to the paint when it goes over your drawings" encouraging them to think about the way the wax crayon "resist's" the wax. Funnily, they asked me why does it happen, after trying to encourage them to think about the answer, our only boy in the class responded with "its all about the molecules" and was happy to leave it at that!

Wax resist paintings are very easy and you can come up with some awesome designs. All you need is paper, wax crayons, watercolor paints, paintbrushes and paper.
I would love to see your creations!

If you would like more information regarding the classes, please feel free to send me an email.
